Top of the Pops //

So it’s that time of year when a million charts are posted celebrating the years music…i love it, it’s a great opportunity to pick up on the things you might have missed.

In the absence of having compiled my own chart, I will point you towards Filter magazine, who have compiled a list of their favourite albums of 2010:

FILTER’s Top 10 of 2010

1. LCD Soundsystem, This Is Happening (DFA/VIRGIN)

2. Beach House, Teen Dream (SUB POP)

3. Mumford & Sons, Sigh No More (GLASSNOTE)

4. The National, High Violet (4AD)

5. The Walkmen, Lisbon (FAT POSSUM)

6. Gorillaz, Plastic Beach (PARLOPHONE/VIRGIN)

7. Surfer Blood, Astro Coast (KANINE)

8. The Black Keys, Brothers (NONESUCH)

9. The Tallest Man on Earth, The Wild Hunt (DEAD OCEANS)

10. Band of Horses, Infinite Arms (BROWN/FAT POSSUM/COLUMBIA)

I chose to post this list for 3 particular reasons:

1. LCD Soundsystem were far and away the best live act i saw this year…I’ve seen them play once before, but this time round i quite literally stood there, mouth open, before realising that i needed to dance…a lot!

2. High Violet by The National was given to me by a friend and after 2 listens i’d bought all of their albums. Some of the songs irritate me now as I definitely overplayed them, but one never will…i think this was my favourite record of 2010…

The National – Bloodbuzz Ohio

3. Plastic Beach by Gorillaz was a really refreshing slice of original pop music. If only more people were thinking innovatively and less about autotune butchery, snide raps and ill fitting jaunty baseball caps.
